Friday, August 31, 2018 was the day we have been waiting for for a year and a half. We were able to finalize the adoption hearing for our daughter and finally became a true, legal family.
Father-in-law Jim, Mother-in-law Mary, Aurora, Judge S., me and my husband, Richard.
When taking in a child through the foster care system, the main goal is reunification with birth families. We knew this going in and were fully prepared. Unfortunately, in Baby Girl’s case, reunification had long ago been ruled out.
As with most kids in her situation, she still loves and misses her biological family. Last week was a hard one for her as she was experiencing the guilt of what she perceives as leaving her bio-family behind. She also had a failed adoption in the past and had doubt that this one would go through. I don’t think she truly believed it would happen until we were standing in front of the judge.
So please join us in our celebration and welcome Aurora into our family. Now, to get all extended family in at some point over the holidays.
