How can you make a family vacation great? One word….pray!
My husband had been away for work for an extended period of time and had arranged to have some time off when he returned home. We decided to take two weeks and travel to California to visit his family.
On paper this sounds like a nice family car trip and for the most part it was. We spent time on amazing beaches, spent a day at a really cool amusement park and spent much needed family time. But there were also arguments, hours sitting in road construction and far too much fast food.
By the time we got home I was exhausted. I spent two weeks keeping up with not only myself, but my husband and a surly teenager who felt that every moment should be spent making her happy and keeping her entertained, screw what everyone else wants.
Now that we have been home for a few days and I have had some time to process things, we really did have a nice trip. I love my in-laws and it warms my heart to see my husband spending time with his father. The best part was watching my daughter have positive “grandparent” time. She hasn’t had a lot of that in her life and deserves every spoiled moment that she can get.
Now, let’s start planning the next trip….
